Next Generation CNC Plasma Table For Small Business | Torchmate 4400-4800

99% of the time i use my TM2X4 for plasma cutting but i do occasionally use it with the router. Can this be used with a router setup?

Be nice to know the specifics on it. Motor size, accuracy on parts at what speed. What is the top end speed for it?

 

Wow, nice machines good job. The bellows on the gantry are cool. Great for keeping the moving parts clean. Can't wait to see more details on them.

Whoever says Torchmate support is less than awesome must be 5150. I have always gotten answers to all my questions. no matter how many times I call with questions I get quick answers and call backs. How many companies give unlimited support even on second hand machines. Plus this forum and even the old pirate forum get responses to questions even off hours and weekends... that is dedication. Thanks Torchmate.

I hope Im not hijacking this thread and if I am please direct me to a better place to pose my questions ...

I called Jim E @ Lincoln this morning about training on plasma cutting operations based upon what I had seen offered on the Lincoln site. Jim was not familiar with the 4400/4800 series and was going to direct me elsewhere. He also said the current training that Lincoln was offering was not for the 44/4800 series. I thought that my questions might be the same as others might ask so I am posing them here.

I am an end user two person shop and am considering autoplasma cutting as a part of a small business opportunity. I have no previous autocad experience. I have downloaded all the videos from torchmate U and reviewed them.While helpful they gloss over operations for brevity sake. As I understand it Lincoln also offers a self paced study course (for purchase) about auto cad and plasma cutting operations (Matt if you know can you please comment upon this?)

I am wondering if Torchmate is going to offer education,online and hands-on, for an end user like me. I dont want to waste time taking a community college cadcam course about construction...Im interested in the nuts and bolts training that would allow a novice operator to operate a machine and learn through experience. Many manufacturers offer "systems" that claim to make autoplasma cutting very easy.. I am doubtful, I use manual plasma cutting extensively. All my machines are red.... and while Im a loyal Lincoln fan I have been looking at many different tables. I came to this site from Pirate off road after Torchmate shut down there

I am interested in art projects, landscape art, fencing etc, small scale fabrication of parts for the off road enthusiast community and personal fabrication needs

I appreciate any direction members have especially those of you who were where I am when you started. For me as a one man show to budget 25+ thousand dollars for a system I need to be fully trained to use it before it shows up so that I can make the investment work. Training to me is substantially more than a distributor showing up upon delivery helping set up the machine.

Hey Joe, prior I had no cad cam experience, I found the torchmate cad very easy to learn, click to create objects then size and such. My son likes autocad, but that's what he learned on, I don't like the keyboard based system of autocad and found it too difficult. Torchmate is easy using the mouse.. once you play with it you will find the instructional videos helpful and answer most questions.

And I read the PDF sample page but Im wondering is there is a better description of what 1000 dollars buys exactly? and whether there are any end users on here that purchased it and found it worthwhile.

Jim told me the "system intro training" was not applicable to me.. but for distributors.. and I dont think thats what your referring to.

Joe , Great questions,
I teach many students a year to work on the Torchmate tables. At first they struggle with the software, but in no time they figure it out (with a little guideance). We have introductory projects that they have to do, then they will design their own prject. I try to have the students do a design cut weld project a the end of the semester. Through the course of cutting, they get the hands on skills as well as trouble shooting when they need to. I have used other machines, but I have not found any with the ease of use and capability of software combned that Torchmate offers. I think that with use, you will find that the software and tables are not complocated, and if needed the customer service at Torchmate is one of if not best I have found with a large company.

 

We ran .250" yesterday for a couple hours on the new machine. We added an new ground rod through the slab. If made a significant different in the performance of the 4800. Previously we have the machine grounded to a location that was attached to a ground rod. The new one is drilled through the slab at the machine. Just a little nugget of info. I have talked to a few people who have not added ground rods to their tables.

 

Yes GROUND ROD is the most important part of our system. A lot of issues get resolved with having a ground rod properly installed and getting less than 3 ohm resistance to the table. Most people overlook grounding as being a solution to "issues" they are having and oh boy...
